The Top Ten Trends to Influence Web Development Domain

The future of web development

There are less than 200 million active websites out of the total 1.8 billion websites on the world wide web today. With each and every passing day brings several thousands of websites which are added to this ever growing total.

Along with the multiplying number of websites being created comes an immense competition among brands to be at the top of each person's search engine results. In order to even touch the surface among all of these active websites, you will have to make sure your website is in accordance to the latest trends. A practiced web developer must always think ahead when it comes to the future trends of its age in order to keep up to speed with all its competitors.

Following much thought and research, we have prepared and provided a list of the most common beliefs of what the future holds for the web world. Here are the top ten trends of the future to give a precise prediction of what the most popular websites will be adding to their list of developments.

1. AMP is a New Norm

Ever since Google started putting more emphasis on mobile-friendly websites in 2015, responsive web design has been a working part of many websites to appropriately fit what unveils with each new development. After the 2017 Adobe report, the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are said to be accounted for 7 percent of all web traffic among the United States top sites. Being Google sponsored, this project has gained momentum following the interactions with Pinterest, Twitter, and Bing.

So what is AMP all about and why do we need it? It was created to further promote the users positive experience when looking at an ad or waiting for content to load. It has had a near perfect performance for websites and most have become pleasingly accustom to its function.

2. The Arrival of Progressive Web Apps (PWA)

With the technology changes that are continuously progressing as the advancement of mobile sites and native apps become more abundant for users to choose from, come the Progressive Web Apps (PWA).

The idea behind the PWA is the assistance they provide to mobile sites and native apps compared to the rather frequent usage of HTML 5. They can provide the same level of positive user experience.

An example of this integration with a top publisher is the eCommerce website Flipkart. Flipkart has added PWA to their toolkit and it has provided a 70 percent conversion increase for their online business.

3. Chatbots Rock

Have you used online support before? If you have ever searched for customer support on a website you may have spotted a small window, usually positioned on the bottom right of a web page. These are usually a customer support option that users can click on to get any help that is needed. Unfortunately this support option is not always 24/7 depending on the company.

Now there is the Chatbot option. These are used for the immediate assistance of a company’s customer support. With the use of a Chatbot there is no need for actual human presence on the other end of the online support, because the Chatbot can be available at anytime day and night.

Every year U.S. businesses lose out on around $62 million dollars because they don’t have adequate customer service. Having a 24/7 automated customer service representative will allow a company the freedom to reach prospects without physically managing their chat room.

4. Push Notifications Prevail

Push notifications have been most known for their use within online applications, but now they are accessible for websites as well. Websites with push notifications can have the ability to attract a wide array of business through using the tricks of the online marketing trade.

Integrating deals and benefits into the push notifications is becoming more popular than ever before. It is the perfect solution to low engagement posts and pulls traffic further into their site with the alluring content within their push notifications. Although helpful, push notifications should be used with discretion. If a business uses too many of this types of advertising the user may view the website as “spammy” and decide not to further interact.

5. Static Websites do not go Anywhere

There are more and more dynamic websites coming into play with the rest of the web world. Although the number of dynamic websites versus static are drastically increasing, static websites are still around and will not be completely out of the picture anytime soon. What currently matters the most to Google and other top search engines is that the website is simple and has fast load times. This will ultimately reflect in a higher ranking.

With these standards, static websites fit the criteria well. Although these websites will get the placement they need to be clicked on, if the website is also dynamic and engaging with its presentation of content they are more likely to be seen as the interesting company. This will post a threat to those with less going on and lead higher turnover rates.

6. RAIL Concept on the Rise

What is the RAIL Concept? It stands for the Response Animation Idle Load, which means a website can have faster load times and better overall performance compared to other websites. RAIL has been a design concept since 2015, but now in 2018 it has been associated with even better capabilities and a friendly user experience.

RAIL incorporates load times that are just under 1 second, as well as smooth tap, drag, and scroll actions which make the website easier to navigate for the user. With the user-centric approach, the RAIL concept is a useful integration for both the web developer and visitors alike.

7. Motion UI is Ready to Reign

If you are trying to increase your conversion rate, Motion UI is a great way to achieve this for your website. Motion UI is a component made up of hovers, background animations, animated charts, and unique headers. Through this helpful implementation you can design a website that stands out from the rest.

Give the visitors what they want in a website that includes beautifully integrated features of Motion UI. If you would like your online platform to excel you must use visuals that are compelling yet simple in order to increase the interaction between your website and the user.

8. Browser Extensions will be More Popular

The demand of browser extensions such as Google Chrome extensions are becoming more prevalent. These extensions are useful, but some are viewing them as a threat to their privacy. This is due to the access the extensions gain to the user’s online activity when they give them permission.

The best way to use browser extensions in order to get the most out of your web browsing experience is to put a privacy protection plan in place. With the more frequent use of privacy protection plans, the more users have trusted browser extensions. Their usage is determined to become increasingly common with the upcoming years.

9. VR and AR

There are endless possibilities when it comes to the technology that is constantly upping their game. A technology that exemplifies this is the futuristic visual capabilities that VR and AR have. Major companies such as Google, Samsung, and Microsoft are adding the exciting world of VR to their list of investments.

AR is another very fascinating extension of VR, but it can be used for more than just the fun games and cool imaging within apps. There are no boundaries when it comes to what the virtual world is achieving and AR is no exemption of this. It is believed to increase its total market price tag to upwards of $215 billion in 2021.

10. Single Page Applications (SPAs) will Thrive

Several websites including Gmail, Github, and Facebook are using SPAs to eliminate slow load times caused by the reloading of a web page as the user scrolls. SPAs work by loading all the browsers content through JavaScript. These SPAs are helpful additions for the user because they do not have to wait for the web pages to render before seeing their content.

These are the top 10 trends to watch out for as they will become increasingly apparent this year and beyond.
